Lance Corporal William Murray Clegg

William Clegg was born in Paris on November 7, 1896 and attended the Paris Baptist Church. He was employed as an boarderer in Penmans Mill No.1. Before the war, he served for one year with the 36th Regiment. He was single and 19 years old when he enlisted with the 125th Battalion in Paris.

William was a member of the 10th Platoon that embarked aboard the S.S Scandinavia on February 12, 1916. The 9th and 10th Platoons were the first contingent of soldiers from Paris, nearly 100 men, to go overseas. He was transferred to the 54th Battalion shortly after arriving in England. There are no clear details of his military service. On June 25, 1919, he was declared by a physician to have defective vision, though it was found to have originated before not during his military service.

Lance Corporal William Clegg was discharged in Toronto July 12, 1919.
