Charles Alfred Tyler
Charlie was the youngest son of six children of Edward Tyler and Rose Selina Singleton, who had immigrated to Canada in 1909. Charlie was born in 1920 and the 1921 Canadian Census shows the family living on Crescent St. in Acton. By 1931, eleven-year-old Charlie was living with his family on Queen St., at a house whose address is now 196 Eastern Ave.
Little is known of Charlie’s military experiences other than he served in WW2.
Charlie married Margaret Ritchie and the couple had three children. The Georgetown Herald reported on November 23, 1949 that “Mr. and Mrs. Chuck Tyler and two small children are hoping to be in their new home for Christmas. The Tylers are living on Normandy Boulevard, Georgetown and their home is situated on Elgin St., opposite the Wilbert Bradley’s”. The address of this home was 20 Elgin St.
Charles “Chuck” died on January 28, 1979 in his 59th year and is buried at Greenwood Cemetery in Georgetown.
Truly a Canadian Hero. His story lives on. Information taken from The Georgetown Herald and Ancestry.ca
