143 Crescent
George Turkosz
George was one of six children born to Andrew and Katherine Luty. Sisters Eva, Mary, brothers John (WW2) and Peter (WW2) were all born in Alberta prior to the family moving to Ontario. George and sister Martha were born following the move.
The 1931 Census shows the family renting a home on Mill St. before settling at 143 Crescent, Acton. Homes in “the Crescent” were originally built and owned by Beardmore as company housing, before being sold off to private owners sometime in the 1930’s.
Little is known of George’s service, other than that he served.
The 1962 and 1972 Voter’s Lists show George continuing to live at home on the Crescent with his widowed mother and sister Martha, George employed at times as a labourer and at times as a steelworker.
George died on June 29, 1990 at the age of 62 and is buried at Fairview Cemetery, Acton
Truly a Canadian Hero. His story lives on.
