69 Young St.

Florio Louis Tournour

Florio was born in Bracebridge, Ont. in 1915 to Louis Tournour and Anna Noemi, who were Italian immigrants. It is believed that he was the eldest of three siblings, having a younger brother Mario and younger sister Olga.

Form 30A (Ocean Arrivals) dated 1923, show young Florio, age eight returning to Canada having left in what appears to be 1919, and returning to Canada once again from Italy in 1934 at age 18, at that time identifying himself as a farmer.

As a young man Florio lived with Eugene and Theresa Braida family for many years when the family was living at 21 Park Ave in Acton.

Florio and Dorothy Lazenby, both of the Village of Acton, married on May 2, 1941, at that time Florio identifying himself as a soldier and Dorothy identifying herself as a glovemaker. The couple did not have any children.

Little is known of Florio’s military service other that he served his country.

The 1957 Canada Voters List places Florio and his wife Dorothy at 69 Young St. and Florio’s occupation is listed as tanner.

Florio died in 1974, followed by Dorothy in 2011. They are both buried in Fairview Cemetery, Acton.

Truly a Canadian Hero. His story lives on. *Information taken from Findagrave.com, Ancestry.ca and personal interview with Rena Arbic
