James Forbes Evans

Born in Perth County December 7, 1913, Jim was the son of Thomas Walter and Jane Forbes.
The 1921 Canadian Census shows the family on Market St. in Georgetown, and the 1931 Census shows the family of seven continuing to live on Market St., the nine room house they owned valued at $6000, and Thomas employed as a fire insurance salesman. At that time, James was 17 and his brother John was 20 (John would be killed in a flying accident during WW2).
James served as a Flight Lieutenant with the R.C.A.F. between 1939 and 1945 and was stationed in the Bahamas for two years. Jim returning safely home to discover that his wife Lauretta June Frank, whom he had married in 1941, had saved his war pay so they could purchase their first home at 2 Guelph St. Georgetown.
The 1965,1972 and 1973 Electors Lists show June and Jim living at 5 Valleyview.
Sadly, Jim died on November 1,1975 and was laid to rest at Greenwood Cemetery, Georgetown.
Truly a Canadian Hero. His story lives on.
