George Robert Edmunds
Son of Albert and Mary Turfas, George was born in Toronto on March 3, 1894.
At the time of his enlistment in 1914, George was 20 years old, he was married and was employed as a mail carrier. He served with the 15th Canadian Battalion from August 15th, 1914 to September 22, 1916 in Canada, Britian and France and then with the 92nd Battalion until discharged to Canada in 1917 when he was retained as a bombing instructor at Camp Borden.
Proceedings of the Medical Board assembled at Camp Borden October 18, 1916 found that Sgt. Edmunds was suffering from the effects of “shell shock” and recommended that his leave absence be extended from November 1916 to January 11, 1917. George married Margaret Turnbull in 1914, and the 1949 List of Electors shows George living in Georgetown, working as a machinist. The couple eventually moved to 164 Prince Charles which is where George lived up until his death in 1967. The couple had five children, one of whom was Corp. Ronald Allen, who died in Korea in 1951, while on service with the Canadian military.
George is buried at Greenwood Cemetery in Georgetown.
